Purchasing Hay

For many customers purchasing a tractor trailer load hay can be a stressful task. Because hay and bales vary so much from area to area It can be difficult for two people to talk over the phone and understand each other’s needs properly.  We have been doing this for years and understand how important it is to get each load just right. Here are some of the many questions we are asked by customers.

Where are you located?
Our yard and office  is based in Bullville NY approximately 10 hours drive east of where most of our hay is located and 1-4 hours west of many of our customers in the NY, New England and NJ.

Where do you deliver?
We deliver almost anywhere in the US and some overseas using various types of transportation. However our best personal service is in NY, CT, NJ, MA, NH, VT, PA, OH, IN, KY (Lexington/Louisville area) and Wellington/Ocala FL during winter months. In these areas our own trucks and crews travel back and forth to deliver and unload daily. Outside of this area we can ship your hay using a trucking company but do not provide unloading and stacking.

Where does your hay come from?
Our hay is sourced from a network of farms scattered across NY, OH, Ontario, IN, WA, NV and some other regions depending on the hay season. Because the weather is so unpredictable and it directly effects hay quality we are constantly on the road loading and grading hay. Depending on the season we may bring your hay from any of these areas. We ensure you we stand behind our quality 100%.

How much hay comes on a truck?
Our trucks on average hold approximately 26 ton (880 bales). We can deliver smaller loads (minimum of 6 ton). Depending on the area small loads may increase the cost of the hay significantly.

How is your hay sold, by the ton or bale?
Almost all of our hay is sold by the ton (2000lb units) the truck is weighed empty and then again after loading on a platform scale to determine the Net weight of the product on the truck. This is the most fair and accurate way to sell or purchase hay. You get what you pay for pound for pound no matter what the individual bales weigh. Shavings are sold by the Bale because of common industry trends however the weight of a bale of shavings is almost always consistent.

Do you guarantee the quality of your hay?
All hay sold by Aden Brook is guaranteed to be what it was represented as. Because there are so many types and grades of hay it is very important that we understand your quality needs before shipping hay to you (if you are a new customer). We normally determine this in a detailed conversation that we have over the phone or in person with you.

How much notice do you need for a delivery?
We prefer at least 2 weeks’ notice for delivery. This gives us time to plan our trips efficiently and select the proper hay for your delivery. However we never let a customer run out of stock. In a situation where you may have forgot to order, we will do what it takes to get you hay before you run out.

Do you deliver weekends?
Yes, we deliver as needed 7 days a week with the exception of certain holidays.

What are your office hours and location?
Our office is staffed from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday. It is located at 1291 Route 302, Bullville NY 10915. Our fax number is 845-361-9926. You may call 800-747-3811 with questions or to place orders. In an emergency situation you may call Nick on his cell phone at 845-901-1892.

Can you unload and stack the hay for us?
With our “full service” delivery option we deliver, stack and clean up chaff after.

Do you ever run out of hay?
No, in our 13 years of business we have never run out of hay or straw to keep our customers going. In certain circumstances we may need to switch a customer over to a more available type of hay or bale size but this is rare. Our job is to go as far as necessary to find the quality and volume of hay that our customers need.

Can you leave a trailer body for us to unload or store the hay in?
We prefer not to do this but it is an option. We have a fleet of 53’ vans and some 28’ “pup” trailers that we “drop and switch” at customers locations. However this normally only for high volume long term accounts where more than 3 trailer loads per month will be needed. Our preference is to deliver to you on our flatbed trailers and unload the hay in your hayloft of storage area.

Are your trucks covered in case of rain during transport?
All of our flatbed trucks are equipped with custom hay tarps and loads are fully tarped if there is forecasted rain in the path of our haul.

We hope these answers were helpful. Feel free to call our office at 800-747-3811 with additional questions. If you need more information in a specific type of hay or a recommended hay for your particular needs please refer to our product menu.
